Inspiration Lately: Texture
One of the things I connect with the most about working with clay is its tactile surface quality throughout the process. When I first started out with the material I preferred the look of my pieces before they were glazed and fired. This was mostly due to the fact I hadn't developed my glaze recipes and techniques yet but there was always something about the raw clay that intrigued me.
I have been yearning for more texture in my work lately. I especially like the contrast between two different surfaces on the same piece. It's that strong appeal to reach out and touch an object with interesting visual texture that I think most people can relate to.
